About

The Train Gamers Association (TGA) is a US non-profit, all-volunteer organisation that promotes competitive play of train-themed board games. It traces its origins to 1989, when a group of train gamers in Denver created the first Puffing Billy Tournament; with support from Mayfair Games it became a club, and the TGA later acquired the tournament and took it around the country.

Puffing Billy is the TGA's trademark tournament format: players score across several train game categories, 18xx among them, at conventions such as Origins, Gen Con, TotalCon and the Chattanooga Rail Gaming Challenge. The TGA's own event is Railcon, its national championship held each October in Rosemont, Illinois, a weekend devoted entirely to train games with an 18xx tournament.
