About
MidCon is one of the longest-established board game conventions in the UK, running since the late 1970s; it began as a face-to-face meeting for the postal Diplomacy hobby and once hosted the national Diplomacy championship. It is organised by a group of volunteer enthusiasts and takes place over a weekend in early November, Friday to Sunday; the 2026 edition was the 47th.
After many years at a hotel near Derby, MidCon moved in 2026 to the Holiday Inn in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, which had hosted the trial summer event MidSummerCon. 18xx has a strong presence: a large contingent of players takes over one of the gaming rooms, with some 20 to 30 people playing 18xx out of an overall attendance of around 300.
