About
The Boardgame Players Association (BPA) is a US non-profit organisation created in 1999 to run the World Boardgaming Championships (WBC), the successor to Avalon Hill's Avaloncon. The WBC is a nine-day tournament convention held every summer since 2016 at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania, with around a hundred official tournaments chosen by attendance and member votes.
18xx has a long-standing place at the WBC. The 18XX tournament is played over the opening weekend in heats, followed by a semifinal and a final, with several eligible titles; 1830 has traditionally been the most played, alongside games such as 1880, 1862 and 1861. The BPA also runs online tournaments during the year.
